Choosing a baby gift

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

The wonderful thing about choosing a baby gift is that it’s pretty hard to go wrong.  Babies are usually not partial to a particular colour or brand name, and they really don’t care what you paid for their gift.  You may not even know the baby’s gender, but that doesn’t matter either, unless you or the parents are really into sex differentiation by colour.

To keep it simple, basic necessities such as diapers, bottles, towels, washcloths, baby powder, lotion and shampoo, or bedding and sleepers are all fairly inexpensive and always appreciated.  If you happen to be a knitter you can make any number of warm, soft and very useful items such as booties, hats and blankets.  A mobile hanging over the crib is a fascinating diversion for most babies; cuddly toys are practically essential.

If your budget permits, consider a portable baby monitor, or perhaps a carry sling.  A sling or front carrier is great for giving Mom some extra freedom of movement whilst establishing a special bond with her baby and a monitor may be just the ticket for parents’ peace of mind.

Selecting baby gifts

Buying baby gifts can be a great deal of fun since you can choose gifts that will put a smile on their parents’ faces and gifts that will put a smile on your own, due to how adorable teeny booties and snugly blankies can be.

However, there are some toys are timeless, such as stuffed toys, and snuggle blankets.  These items are able to withstand a great deal of wear and tear however, making them excellent presents for children.

One such present is the 3 piece Perfect Start Organic Natural Colour cotton gift set, which comes with a sleepsuit, mitts, and hat and comes inside of a gift box that still leaves room for you to add in your own message to the parents.  It also looks like an expensive present far past its actual price tag, making it a great choice if there are many impending children on the way that you need to purchase presents for.

Also great is a wrist rattle made by Manhattan Toys that features paper crinkle type flower petals, the rattle of course, a scratch free closure, and soft materials so that baby is always comfortable.  As an aside, this particular present is also quite adorable both in the box and while on baby’s wrist making it a great middle of the road present for baby showers and the like.
