The gift of a day at the races or even a horse

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Taking someone to the races is a great gift you can give them or even better, offer them unlimited days at the track by buying them a racehorse. This would introduce them to one of the most respected sports in the world and it could actually improve their entire life

You can fill a desire in the most incredible way, because many people say that when they were younger they wanted a horse and were not able to get one.

Going to the races is an excellent experience and is a great gift in itself. You can enjoy the outdoors and wear your favorite clothes to a wonderful event. As the horses parade in the paddock you can enjoy a good meal and sip a cold drink. Watching the power of a horse in person is so much different than seeing them on TV.

Betting on the horses also introduces also adds interest and pleasure to the trip. They can bet money on the horse they feel will win. This will add interest, suspense and pleasure to the event. They will also have a horse to cheer on to the finish line not to mention the money you might win if the horse pays off.

To conclude, remember the gift of a racehorse is incomparable. The way a person looks at the sport changes and they become more involved. If you buy them a racehorse as a gift you know they will be happy and enjoy the horse and will look at the horse racing competition from an entirely different angle.

The worst Valentines gifts

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Has a there ever been a Valentine’s gift that has made you wonder about bad Valentine’s gifts that are quite commonplace. FakeTV, makers of a burglar deterrent had a contest on Facebook to see what their customers may have received as gifts.

They received responses such as these that were given by men such as a coupon book for back rubs, fake engagement ring the famous cubic zirconium, vacuum cleaner some husbands favorite, Panini Maker, tickets to a monster truck fest, rose addressed to another woman meaning two women receive wrong cards, nothing at all. Those given by her to him included; tickets to the Bridal shows a direct message to him to get on the ball and propose.

The top worst fake Valentine’s Day gift was dog biscuits wrapped in a heart shaped box. This one first prize and the man that gave her the gift no longer is in her life.

The women that responded had one thing in common; the intention was the most important part. It is important to not let worrying about not buying the right thing deter you from buying anything and do not send a message that says being by yourself is your desire.  The well intentioned will also win over the thoughtless.

FakeTV was not on the list because it is a fake that is good. The FakeTV simulates a TV’s light thus making the home look occupied. A fake is a fake but this fake is good and offers a piece of mind.

A great Valentines gift does not have to be expensive

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Not everyone agrees with Valentine’s Day. For everyone that does there are those that think is a commercialising way to exhort money from consumers. Here are some tips to help make a good impression on Valentine’s Day.

Red roses – the norm, but the most appreciated as well. Prices are high so shop around for the best deals. Some arrangements may cost up to £100. Marks & Spencer’s has a £19.99 bouquet delivered that is well worth the price.

Other flowers may be an alternative and are not as expensive as roses at this time of year.

Hyacinths, irises and freesias are alternatives and cheaper than exotic out-of-seasons flowers.

Remember, you can always buy your loved one their favourite fragrance. The big department stores will have the best deals and buying online will save you money.

Sites to check on are CheapSmells.com, StrawberryNET.com and FragranceDirect.co.uk. Pricerunner.com will help you compare prices as well. A box of chocolates is always a safe bet but you need to find the best prices because they can be expensive.

Thornton’s offers for £4.99 a box of 13 chocolate hearts, continental chocolate from £10.99 and champagne truffles at £15.00. You may also find deals at local supermarkets or win them over by making your own.

There are many online offers for dining, but in order to avoid trouble do not take your loved one for a 2 for 1 special if love is on your mind. You do not have to spend a great deal though, you can reserve a meal through 5pm.co.uk or toptable.com with savings up to 50% in top quality restaurants in the UK.

If you have not made plans but are keen to do so, check last minute deals for the theatre, hotel or spa. Sites like Lastminute.com, Laterooms.com and others are out there to help you save money.

Choosing a Valentine’s Day gift for a guy

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

Choosing a Valentine’s Day gift is traditionally seen as a difficult task for men, even though it is for the one they treasure with all their heart. Yet, women might also find it difficult to select the right gift for their guy on this romantic day. Here are some ways for those women to make the right choice of that special, romantic gift for this special time of romance.

Since every man has his own taste, you cannot just come up with a set way of selecting the right gift for all men. Women should rather set their choice on something he would appreciate, of course. If you have no clue what that is, then just try to get a broader view. Ask yourself which of the suggestions you have seen advertised on TV might hit it off with your man for V-Day.

Take time and make a list of things he needs and things he wants. They will probably all centre around machines, electronics, and computer gadgets. If you make this kind of list it will be much easier on you in the end, since you have taken into consideration his tastes.

Practical gifts are a good idea for men too, but avoid those that have nothing to do with his work or his hobbies. Sometimes their hobbies include looking good. Buying a nice shirt for this kind of man is ideal, for others, who might be into fishing, a fishing rod.

If you must ask in a round about way what he would like, be very careful to not give away that it is for Valentine’s Day. Instead, make another list of his hobbies and imagine what he might use in these and at work, you will be on the right track then.

Many men also appreciate a well presented gift. They do have a romantic bone in their body, contrary to what some women assume about men. So whatever the gift, plan a special way to present it to your man. Sexy is always a big hit. So you might want to make it look like you are the gift and at the last minute pull out the item you bought him. It is a big tease, but you will get a good laugh and great humour from him.

Valentine’s Day gifts for husbands

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Those that are on a tight budget can still find perfect gifts for their husbands on Valentine’s Day if they know where to look.  The following is a quick cheat sheet to getting great budget buys that will send your husband over the moon.

First of all, most women do not realize just how much their husbands actually value time spent with just them with a large majority of men actually admitting that they miss alone time with their wives.  With this thought in mind maybe this year you can make sure to set aside some special time by creating a coupon book that he can use any time he like.  Included in the coupon book should be things that you know that he likes such as a free back massage, two weeks off trash duty, or three weekends off to watch the Sunday football matches.  Just think about what he really wants and write up a coupon for it!

You may also want to think about an indulgence that he may be missing such as a day out at the ball game which he may not be getting since budgets got tighter.  While it may not be the most romantic gift out there, it will certainly thrill him more than any other gift on the market such as roses or chocolate.  It may not be a season pass, but even one day out will usually make most guys happy.

Finally, if your budget is simply impassable consider creating an E-card that contains all of your deepest emotions about him and then send it while he is away or at work to make sure that he gets a little special reminder about how special he is to you.

Gifts for her Valentine’s day

Friday, January 21st, 2011

It’s almost that time of year when those lucky couples among us can go out for a meal that at any other time would cost half the price, and those of us unfortunate (or fortunate, depending on your point of view) still to be single will either stay at home with a bottle of wine and a TV dinner, or have the bottle of wine then go out and try and find someone. Yes, it’s Valentine’s Day

These days you don’t even have to be misterlastminute.com with your petrol station pansies, with such a wide range of presents available. Whether you’re shopping for love or luck, she will love you for it and if she doesn’t yet know who you are, choose the right gift and you might get lucky, whether you’re going sweet and simple (gift-wise, that is) or up-market and glitzy.

It needn’t cost the earth, either (literally). Send an e-card E-cards often involve a lot more thought. A great new website has e-cards for free and hundreds of designs that you can do with what you want, including adding music and pictures. You can send the card via e-mail, snail mail, blog or Facebook, or just print it, so there’s no excuse for being late. You don’t have to stop at the wife or girlfriend, you can send them to friends and family and once you’re in the habit of sending them, use them for other occasions, too. At a time when we all have to save our pennies, sending e-cards is a great way.

Alternatively, you can get away for a weekend of good clean fun (if you prefer). Hotels and other establishments, from York to New York, will all be offering deals for Valentines.  Go while the goings hot, the weather’s cold and the kids are at the parents. Relax in comfort on leather, in front of a naked fire, or in bubbly water, with a glass of bubbly.

For the more naughty among us, there’s always lingerie. Anything goes (or comes off) for Valentine’s Day – whether it’s traditional bras and panties, Basques and teddies or ‘accessories’. If you just want to stay warm, there are always thermals or silk gowns. If you’re one of those people that pretends they’re lost when you find yourself in lingerie (the department, that is), you can simply shop online to both your beating hearts’ content.

Valentine’s Day gifts for teens

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Teens can be a bit tricky when it comes to Valentine’s Day.  After all, the main sentiment involved is, “I love you”, but how to say that in the way that will be best accepted and appreciated often poses a problem.  The best advice is usually the simplest; unfortunately in this case it’s never simple.  Therefore, the following constitutes a few suggestions only.  You’ll have to decide for yourself, based on your relationship to the teenager in question.

Unless you’re involved in a ‘serious’ relationship, and probably even if you are, keep it light.  A stuffed animal of an appropriate species wearing a personalized t-shirt is darn near a sure winner, but this one requires some imagination on your part.  The same cuddly animal wearing jewellery is also irresistible if it’s within your budget and you really want to make a statement.

Flowers may not be high on a teenager’s list of most-treasured gifts, but again, depending on what you’re really trying to say, flowers can say most anything.  From a little bouquet of silk flowers (highly practical and not too expensive) to the much more personal presentation of, say a single red rose accompanied by an ardent gaze and an invitation to dinner and dancing, the possibilities are unlimited.

It is very unlikely that the gift of an iPad would be rejected, or perhaps one of the latest e-readers like the Kindle.  The sort of electronic device that made all the Christmas lists’ top ten, if the designated teen doesn’t have one already, is really a no-brainer.  All you have to worry about is the cost.

If you really wish to make an unforgettable occasion out of Valentine’s Day, plan a picnic that you can take indoors if necessary.  Or book a hot-air balloon trip, or get tickets to the theatre.  Mostly you just need to relax and quit worrying about the “perfect” gift.

A hug and a loving smile have worked like a charm for countless generations.  Everything else is extras.

Valentine’s Day gift preparation

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Valentine’s Day is traditionally the occasion to express one’s love, usually for a member of the opposite sex and in a romantic fashion rather than a ‘just friends’ gesture.  Also traditionally, red roses are the gift of choice, symbolizing deep and ardent emotion on the part of the giver.  This being the case, it shouldn’t be a surprise that red roses will cost you more just before Valentine’s Day than just about any other time of the year.  If you must cleave to the traditional, a single red rose can be more dramatic than a dozen, and it will be considerably less expensive.

Basically, you want the recipient of your Valentine gift to get the message that you care a great deal about him or her, and the more you know about that person’s preferences the better your chances of getting that message across.  If you really feel that flowers are the best choice for your beloved, consider other options, such as a bouquet of wildflowers that you arranged yourself.  Of course you’ll probably have to make do with the hothouse varieties, since February is not exactly wildflower month in the Northern Hemisphere.

Flowers aside, there are infinite possibilities for that extra-special gift that says, “I love you and don’t doubt it for a minute.”  Dinner at an exclusive restaurant may not be compatible with your budget, but if the loved one loves pizza, or Chinese, or Indian, or any other particular kind of cuisine, consider having a meal for two delivered to your home, and enhance the experience with romantic background music, or perhaps a new movie to watch together after you dine.

If you know or suspect that your loved one keeps a journal, or would like to keep one, the gift of such an item could be a wonderful way to show how much you care.  You can find the perfect cover for all those blank pages; write your own ‘dedication’ and offer the loved one hours and years of enjoyment and personal satisfaction.  You could even go all out and present the journal accompanied by a single red rose.

Amazon customers can return gifts before they are delivered

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Amazon has applied for a patent for a new technology on the web that will allow customers to return their gifts if they wish before they even reach their doorstep.

The patent documents reveal that the web technology will allow gift recipients to look over their gift before it is delivered so that they can decide if they really want it or not.  This will allow customers to avoid delays and costs associated with returning gifts from the online superstore.

The technology also allows customers to exchange the unwanted gift for something else they would rather have if they like.  It also will have a built in feature that allows users to register all allergies and preferences so that their friends and family members know what to give them.

The patent explained this feature by stating that users may choose to put a rule in place that will deter a sender with different tastes from sending them a gift they do not want.

Given the fact that a great deal of money and time is wasted on returning gifts within the online sector analysts are hopeful that this will help improve e-retail practicalities.
